Rules

Game rules

Setup, day, night, voting, and victory conditions in Mafia - Role game.

Before the game begins

First choose who is playing and the rules for this game. The app keeps your choices, deals the roles, and prepares the first turn.

01

Create the table

Choose player count, roles, and game settings. These settings become the rules for the current game.

02

Deal roles

In player mode, the host shows face-down cards and the player picks one. In host mode, roles are assigned manually.

Game flow

Introduction Night

Roles wake in order and meet the host. Mafiosi and the Don meet one another, as do the Masons. No role actions happen that night.

Introduction Day

Players introduce themselves in the selected format. There are no nominations, votes, or eliminations on the first day.

Night Phase

The app shows whom to wake and which action to record. After the last role, review the night result.

Day

Announce the night result, then guide discussion, nominations, candidate defenses, voting, a possible revote, and the final word.

How each side wins

Civilians

The Civilians work together to find and remove the Mafia and the Maniac. They win when neither threat remains. If the Werewolf is still asleep but is due to join the Mafia, the game continues until the next night.

Mafia

The Mafia works together to take control of the table. Once the Maniac is out, they win when they equal or outnumber the Civilians. If only the Mafia and Maniac remain, the Mafia needs the majority.

Maniac

The Maniac plays alone. To win, they must stay in the game until only one other player remains—unless the Mafia has already won.

Game options

Mafia - Role game lets you adapt each game to your group by changing the discussion order, role dealing, checks, healing, and voting rules.

  1. 01

    Discussion order

For regular game days, you can choose what comes first: an open discussion or each player speaking in turn.

  2. 02

    First day

There are no nominations or voting on the first day. The app lets everyone talk together or gives each player their own turn to speak.

  3. 03

    Who speaks first

The app can pass the opening turn to the next living player each day, so the same person does not always start the discussion.

  4. 04

    Dealing roles

Roles can be dealt in two ways: players take turns choosing hidden cards on the device, or the host assigns a role to each person.

  5. 05

    Roles of eliminated players

You can play with revealed or hidden roles. In an open game, the app shows an eliminated player’s role; in a closed game, it shows only their name.

  6. 06

Checks by the Don, Commissar, and Patrol Officer

The Don looks for the Commissar or active Patrol Officer, while the Commissar and Patrol Officer look for Mafia players. The app can show only the result, add an attack on a match, or always add an attack. The Bodyguard and Doctor may still save the target.

  7. 07

    Doctor’s treatment

If one player is attacked several times in the same night, the app lets the Doctor’s treatment stop one attack or all of them.

  8. 08

    Nominees needed for a vote

You can set the minimum number of nominees in the app. If fewer are nominated, the day ends without defenses or a vote.

  9. 09

    Unused votes

The app can automatically give the last nominee the votes of everyone who did not vote. This option can be turned off.
